Blog 8: A subject you have enjoyed studying this semester
The subject I enjoyed studying this semester it was the CFG called "Migraciones Contemporáneas y Racismo en Chile" this course was realized for the sociologist Maria Emilia Tijoux Merino (yes, Anita Tijoux mom's)she's an amazing teacher!.
This course dealt important topics with different expositors, such as stigmas, prejudices and the differents ways how the racism is manifested in Chile, besides the rights of imigrants and the law that regulates inmigration in Chile.
"El Decreto
Ley Nº1094 de 1975; Ley de Extranjería", is the only law we have that regulates inmigration in Chile: a law created in dictatorship and with a perspective of security and control, not of inclusion or human rights towards foreigner who enter and live in our country.
To finish the course we did a mini-reserch about how the symbolic socio-spatial segregation in the country affects to the migrant population.
In conclution, a new inmigration law is necessary that is respectful of his human rights and takes charge of the current reality of Chile, an increasingly diverse and multicultural country.
